This post is way later than I intended for it to be...but I've had some issues this month and haven't had the mental capacity to write this. I'm feeling better today so here we go. We did not make a TON of progress on the debt in January, but we did make some, so lets talk about it. We did make some money moves this month. Mikey opened up another credit card and at the very end of the month we were offered an awesome balance transfer card form the credit union that holds my new car loan. I did get my new car too by the way. Which has a higher monthly payment, slightly, and a significantly higher interest rate honestly. We also filed taxes already but have not gotten the money yet. We plan to make a principal only payment on his truck with it because of how high his interest rate is on the truck and it would make a pretty good difference for him.

I think in general this was pretty good. We paid down credit cards by $600 altogether and considering my husband barely worked this month (tree services are slow in the winter) I think that was fairly good progress. He was barely bringing anything home so there is only so much we can do in these kinds of months. He doesn't really have any side gigs like I do outside of tree work. In the summer he will be getting a lot of overtime and a lot of side work on the weekends and that makes a world of difference. I also didn't have a W2 job for most of the month either, so that makes a difference as well.
Loans | January | February |
---|---|---|
Becca's Car | 18683 | |
Mikey's Truck | 37324 | 37319 |
Personal | 6777 | 6579 |
Total | 44101 | 62581 |
Our loan total went up a lot because of the new car I got. Also while Mikey makes a thousand dollar truck payment every month his principal balance barely goes down at all. This is why we want to take our tax refund and make a principal only payment to his truck as well. That would make a big difference in his truck balance and his interest in the long run I think.
Savings/Investments | January | February |
---|---|---|
Sofi | 2629.41 | 2401.07 |
Stash | 1674.05 | 1771.27 |
Treasury Direct | 859.75 | 862.13 |
TSP | 1899.58 | 1796.37 |
Total | 7062.79 | 6830.84 |
The total investment balance did go down significantly this month because my Sofi savings balance went down. This happened because this account is what I use to pay my lawyer currently and I pay her on the first every month. Stash also climbed a lot I invest about $35 a month into that account so that was quite a bit of growth outside of that $35 which is awesome. My treasury direct didn't go up month but that makes sense because that is bonds and those increase slowly. I have no idea why my TSP fell but I doubt it will be like that long term. I do not contribute to that account anymore so any growth within it is just from what is already in there, no new additions.
This month could have been better but it also wasn't that bad overall I think. We made progress despite my husband not working a lot for the winter, so I'm just happy and proud we made progress overall. It gives me hope and excitement for the future.
